Citadelle Gin is a distinguished French gin brand that has garnered a reputation for its exceptional craftsmanship and unique flavor profile.
Established in 1996 by Alexandre Gabriel, the founder of Maison Ferrand, Citadelle Gin has its roots deeply embedded in the rich history of French spirits. The inspiration for Citadelle Gin dates back to the late 18th century when the French began producing gin at the Citadelle de Dunkerque, a historic fortress. This historical connection is reflected in both the name and the artisanal production methods employed by the brand today.
The production of Citadelle Gin follows a meticulous and traditional process that highlights the brand’s commitment to quality and authenticity. The base spirit is made from French wheat and is distilled in small copper pot stills. Citadelle Gin is unique in that it is distilled using an open flame, a traditional method that allows for greater control over the distillation process and enhances the complexity of the final product. The gin is infused with 19 botanicals, including juniper berries, coriander, citrus peel, cardamom, and star anise, which contribute to its distinctive and well-balanced flavor profile. The botanicals are macerated in the base spirit for up to 72 hours before distillation, ensuring that the flavors are fully extracted and integrated.
